KneeMD was born out of necessity.

I’ve been an industrial designer and innovator for over 15 years and have designed and developed a large range of products – from ski boots and snowboard bindings to consumer electronics and medical devices.

I grew up skiing the Wasatch Mountains, and suffered a serious ski accident which required multiple knee surgeries. Due to complications, I lost much of the motion and function of my knee. I was prescribed multiple devices meant to increase motion and restore function in the knee, but they were extremely ineffective, painful and expensive. It was at that point that I decided to take my knee treatment into my own hands. I created my own knee rehabilitation device and started using it in place of those complex devices.

The results were incredible. By using the device that would become KneeMD along with treatment from world-renowned surgeon Dr. Steadman, I was able to restore most of the lost motion and function of my knee. I showed the device to Dr. Steadman, and he said, “I need these for my patients, where can I get them?” That was the moment KneeMD was born. 

KneeMD is an acronym for Knee Motion Device.  It is the first patient-controlled knee rehabilitation device that helps patients who have undergone total knee replacements or other major knee surgeries improve range of motion and stretch in extension.

We started Promotus, a privately funded and held company whose name in Latin means “move forward,” to develop and launch KneeMD – the first of many innovative medical products that allow patients to move forward in their therapy and in their lives. Dr. Steadman and I worked together through multiple iterations of the product to create the best device possible to regain knee motion in extension, working with three world class physical therapy and sports medicine orthopedic clinics in conjunction with some of the best surgeons, therapists, and athletes in the world. After years of designing, prototyping, testing, a clinical trial, regulatory compliance, team building, and a lot of hard work, we’ve now taken KneeMD to market for a full scale launch.
